Ron Mortensen
Bio
Ron MortensenRonald Mortensen is a native Utahn—born in Fillmore, raised in Delta on a Ranch 9 miles out of town. His family has been in Bountiful since the late 60s. He is a grandfather with three grandchildren.
Dr. Mortensen was educated in Utah’s public schools and holds a Ph.D. from the University of Utah in Political Science. Ron has a lifetime of service to our nation and community.
Military
Ron served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era. He spent most of his time at Kadena airbase on Okinawa. Ron currently serves as the commander of the American Legion post in Bountiful.
Diplomat
Ron served for over 19 years as a Foreign Service Officer (FSO) at United States diplomatic missions (embassies and consulates) in Chad, Mauritania, Gabon, Canada, Australia and France.
Salt Lake Olympic Committee under the leadership of Mitt Romney
From 1997 – 2003, Ron was the Director of Human Resources and International Entry for the Salt Lake Organizing Committee (SLOC).
Educator
Dr. Mortensen has been an Assistant Professor of Political Science and Public Administration and an Adjunct Professor of Human Resources and International Business. He has taught in undergraduate, graduate and MBA programs at the University of Utah, Westminster, St. Mary’s College (Minnesota), Murray State University (Kentucky), and Boston University and St. Xavier, Chicago (Paris campuses).
Public Policy and Legislative Experience
Ron is one of the most influential voices at the legislature and throughout the state for citizen interests.
Ron is also a co-founder of CitizensForTaxFairness.org, the Citizens Coalition for Fair Taxes and the Utah Coalition on Illegal Immigration.
He served as an unpaid, full-time citizen lobbyist during the 2008 legislative session with an emphasis on true property tax reform and illegal immigrant driven child identity theft.
He has fought for years to keep taxes low in Davis County and he is recognized as a national leader on illegal immigration.
Ron served as the Executive Director of the House Conservative Caucus during the 2007 legislative session and has first hand experience on how the legislature works—the good, the bad, and the ugly.
Ron’s Political Philosophy
Ron admires Ronald Reagan and fully supports the party platform. He believes that government should be strictly limited to its legitimate functions and that taxes and spending must be controlled. Legislators must support the rule-of-law and honor, defend and uphold the Utah and United States Constitutions including the Second Amendment. Special care must be taken not to do anything that negatively impacts Utah’s traditional families.
